I am currently developing a whole exhibition on the theme of ‘Flying’. Please contact me if you are interested in this - or any other part of my work.

Flying has always been an obsession for mankind; we have always wanted to fly like birds - or angels. Although it is only about 100 years since we started flying ourselves - now it has become mundane. I want to rediscover its excitement and wonder.

Flying has meant many things to me through my life. My uncle flew spitfires on photo-reconnaissance missions in WW2. I had floating out of body experiences at Hornsey Art School in the 60s, and now I live close to Heathrow; (though we no longer pause at 10.30pm every night as Concorde flies passed our kitchen window). Also I have been taking photos from airliner windows for over 20 years and recently I have been taking lessons in gliding.

Flying provides me with a productive focus which connects the variety of my visual work. Generally my small work is the first exploration of how things are. Whereas my large more abstract work is built up in layers over a long time.
Acrylics allow this and offer an exciting new range of iridescent paints which change the work in different light and with the different position of the viewer, and allow for the collaging of my photographs.

Creating visual space has always been important to me - but space, time - and death is very different in a cockpit (see Peter Lanyon).
